The cropped head shot I think works as the back ground is of no consequence and all of the attention is on the face.
The background not too distracting in the head and shoulders shot but starts to be noticed in the torso shot - by which time the trousers are taking all of the attention. By the time of the full length shot I am trying to make the best of the background.
I should have chosen a different subject and had them look directly at the camera and not be too concerned if the first close up was so close that it was almost abstract. I have tried to take the background into consideration from the start and this stopped me getting in closer.
